NEWSNeil Morisetti becomes JCC President

OC Neil Morisetti (Class of 1975) has taken over as President of the John Carpenter Club, City of London School’s Alumni Association. His tenure lasts from June 2022 to June 2023.

Commenting on his role as President, he said his focus is very much on ensuring that the JCC maximises its contribution to the school, principally through bursaries but also sport, whilst supporting those who have recently left, drawing on the expertise of fellow Old Citizens.

Attending CLS from 1969 to 1975, Neil was a member of Mortimer House and a Prefect, he played rugby and cricket and was a Cadet Warrant Officer in the CCF (RAF).

In May 1976 he joined the Royal Navy and went to Britannia Royal Naval College (Dartmouth) before reading Environmental Sciences at the University of East Anglia, where his rugby improved and he spent a lot of time playing sport!

Back with the Royal Navy in 1979, he specialised as a Surface Warfare Officer, serving in most regions of the world but in particular, the North Atlantic and the Middle East. Over the next 30 years he commanded a variety of ships form the Northern Ireland Patrol Boat HMS CYGNET to the aircraft carrier HMS INVINCIBLE. His last sea appointment was as Commander, UK Maritime Forces.

When not at sea he was involved in strategic planning and programming for the Royal Navy and wider Defence. In his last appointment before retiring he acted as the UK Government Climate and Energy Security Envoy, subsequently moving to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office as the Foreign Secretary’s Special Representative for Climate Change.

He has been at University College London since 2014, where he is a Professor of Climate and Resource Security, and a Vice Dean in the Faculty of Engineering Sciences.

Married with two grown up children, home is in North Dorset where he helps his wife Jennifer run the family farm. ‘Too old and too broken for most sports’, he says, he depends on the treadmill and farm labouring to keep fit enough to enjoy days in the field with his gun dog Maise!
